Conflict of Interest Checking

A more accurate way to check your conflicts

Traditionally, Conflict of Interest checks have been performed as part of your time and billing solution. At Synaptec, we believe that performing conflicts checks within your case management solution is a better alternative for a variety of reasons. These include the fact that (1) information in your accounting application may become outdated since changes in cases are not always communicated to the accounting department; (2) you are often limited in an accounting applications to performing only a single type of conflict search; and (3) these result in emails often being sent to staff members to check to see if they know of any type of conflict resulting in haphazard results. This method of checking conflicts within the accounting department is more a result of history than “best practices”.

With LawBase users have the ability to perform conflict checks at a time of their choosing allowing Attorneys to perform a conflict search during the initial meeting with the client.

Additionally, LawBase allows you to have multiple types of conflict searches based upon the needs of your firm. However, rather than being limited to searching only parties for an ethical conflict search perhaps you would also want to see what contact, if any, these parties have had with your firm. For example, you may find that a potential defendant in a matter is a star witness in another case and you may decide to decline representation based upon the business decision that the other case may be hurt by taking on the new matter.
